0 carbon homes exempt from stamp duty according to the Budget

The chancellor has announced in the 2007 Budget that Zero carbon homes up to £500,000 will be exempt from stamp duty until 2012.
The government, according to Gordon Brown - Chancellor of the Exchequer, has consulted with major banks and building societies such as Barclays, Northern Rock and Abbey to encourage them to create a new mortgage market - mortgages for immediate capital investment in energy efficiency which cuts consumption & bills.
The government went further to encourage energy conservation and reducing energy 'waste' by offering grants of £300-£4,000 to pensioners who install insulation and central heating in their homes.
The Chancellor is calling for a European-wide decision to reduce the VAT rate to 5% on energy saving products in the home.
