Building Societies

Building Societies

A building society is a financial organisation that offers saving accounts and mortgages, although most of them have now added new products to their range.

A building society is a mutual organisation. This means that people who have a savings account, a mortgage or any other type of product, are members of that building society.

As they are members, this allows them to have certain rights to vote and receive information. Every member has one vote, regardless of how much they have invested or borrowed.

Each building society also has a board of directors who oversees operations and they set the strategy for future direction of the organisation.
