Home Contents Insurance

What is Home Contents Insurance?

Home contents insurance in the UK is to cover nearly everything you own, and would take with you if if you moved. This would include: furniture, furnishings, kitchen equipment, household goods, televisions, PC and audio equipments, video & DVD, clothing, personal items, and even food and drink!

General Cover

Most home contents insurance policies will cover loss or damage to your possessions while in your home. There are some policies that will also cover your possessions when you are away from home. The loss and damage may be caused by theft, fire and flooding.

Liability Cover

Some policies have liability insurance. This means that if somebody visits your home and trips or injures themselves, they could make a claim against you. However, liability insurance would cover you for this event.

Accidental Damage Cover

What about accidental damage caused by yourself? Your policy should cover damage to mirrors and glass tops, as well as electrical equipment such as videos, DVDs, TVs and computers. It is not to hard to extend your current policy to cover accidental damage to the items you own.

High Value Items

Expensive items like art, jewellery or antiques might need to have separate insurance. Often there is a limit applied to the amount that a content policy will pay for a single item. Your policy should allow you to name them and you may have to pay a higher premium for their inclusion.

How much cover?

Your insurance policy could cover a specified replacement value of everything in your home, calculated by you, or an amount of cover based on the number of bedrooms in your home. Why not get a quote right now?:
